Kurt Brummett joined United Way of Oxford-Lafayette County (UWOLC) as its executive director in December 2016 and helps advance the organization’s mission to improve lives and meet community needs by uniting people and resources as it promotes youth opportunity, healthy community, financial security, and community resiliency throughout Oxford and Lafayette County. UWOLC works hand in hand with its supporters and partners to mobilize its community to action so all can thrive as it creates a brighter future for local residents of all ages as well as backgrounds.
Before joining UWOLC, Kurt served as the research & innovation director at Three Rivers Planning & Development District, where he partnered with local governments, nonprofit organizations, and other entities to promote economic and community development.
Kurt earned a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Mississippi, with primary emphases in demography and community development as well as a minor in economics. He graduated summa cum laude and received several academic honors such as the Marcus Elvis Taylor Memorial Medal, Graduate Achievement Award, and the designation of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Vice President.
Kurt has called Oxford home since August 1996. While he is a native of Tremont, Illinois, his parents, Kenneth and Doris Brummett, both hailed from Lafayette County and the three would visit Oxford each summer to see family. In his spare time, Kurt enjoys spending time with his wife, Kelly, and their son, Zach, as well as following the St. Louis Cardinals and Ole Miss Rebels among other teams.
