OSD’s campaign helps UWOLC advance its mission to improve lives and meet community needs by uniting people and resources. All award decisions are made by local volunteers from our community who review and approve the proposals we receive on an annual basis from eligible applicants. The process ensures accountability as applicants must demonstrate the positive outcomes of their programs and the severity of the needs being addressed in one or more of the UWOLC’s four focus areas of health, education, financial stability, and basic needs.
Through its funded programs and community coalition work, our local United Way assists residents of all ages as well as backgrounds. UWOLC supports everything from the LOU Reads Coalition, which seeks to ensure all children in our community can read to grade level by the end of the third grade, to the Meals on Wheels program in Lafayette County, which provides a nutritious meal, friendly visit, and safety check for numerous elderly residents.
Even if someone has only a dollar to give, UWOLC offers the ability to make a meaningful difference. Five dollars can purchase a meal for an elderly resident. Ten dollars can provide a workbook to an adult seeking to earn a general equivalency diploma. Twenty-five dollars can supply a free book to a young child each month for a year through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Those are only a few examples of the impact that can be produced as UWOLC helps annually fund programming from agencies like Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging and Lafayette County Literacy Council.
Every contribution is an investment in the LOU community as UWOLC partners with individuals, nonprofits, businesses, and public entities to make a significant impact throughout Oxford and Lafayette County. UWOLC proudly provides the means to support several programs through a single contribution in addition to offering the ability to designate to a particular organization or focus area. No matter the approach or amount, every investment yields incredible returns as UWOLC works hand in hand with its amazing supporters and partners to assist thousands of local residents.
Thank you to our phenomenal friends from OSD for your tremendous partnership and all you do to make our community better. It is a pleasure as well as privilege to work hand in hand with you and every donation makes a difference as we partner to produce positive outcomes in the lives of local residents.
